MOSCOW – Moscow is currently struggling to cope with the number of new coronavirus admissions in city hospitals; the number of hospital beds will be increased to 24,000 soon, the city’s mayor Sergei Sobyanin said.

“We have started to dynamically increase the number of COVID beds. Literally within days, we have them up from 12,000 to 17,000. At the same time, we are struggling to cope with the increase in hospitalizations which, too, are rising. Still, we are managing so far, we have reserves,” Sobyanin told the presidium of the Russian government’s coordinating council tasked with coronavirus response, on June 17.

“Over the next few weeks we are planning to maximize this grouping to 24,000 beds,” he said.
