You're reading: Russia records 8,489 new Covid-19 cases

Russia has recorded another 8,489 new coronavirus infection cases over the past 24 hours, and 336 people earlier diagnosed with coronavirus have died in the past day, the federal coronavirus operative response headquarters said in a statement on May 3.

“Russia has recorded 8,489 new confirmed coronavirus cases (Covid-19) in 82 regions over the past 24 hours, including 1,173 (13.8%) cases identified proactively without any clinical symptoms manifested,” the headquarters said.

As many as 336 deaths associated with coronavirus have been confirmed in Russia over the past 24 hours, and 6,367 patients earlier diagnosed with Covid-19 have recovered and been discharged from hospitals, the headquarters said.

Russia saw 8,697 new cases of coronavirus, 342 related deaths, and 7,339 recoveries on May 2.

Moscow has recorded 2,635 new Covid-19 cases (more than any other region of Russia), 58 related deaths, and 1,408 recoveries over the past 24 hours, it said.

The areas that have seen the least daily cases are the Magadan region (two) and the Republic of Tyva (three).

The Jewish Autonomous Region, the Chukotka Autonomous District, and the Nenets Autonomous District have recorded no new cases of coronavirus.

The cumulative number of new coronavirus infection cases recorded in Russia since March 2, 2020 has reached 4,831,744. Over the entire period of the pandemic, 111,198 people diagnosed with Covid-19 have died nationwide. As many as 4,450,289 patients have recovered and been released from hospitals.

Hence, the number of active coronavirus cases in Russia now is 270,257.
