You're reading: Two-thirds of Moldova’s citizens want integration in EU

CHISINAU – Most citizens of Moldova (68.4%) want the country to join the European Union (EU), according to a sociological poll conducted by the company Date Inteligente.

According to the study, 37.5% of the respondents want unification of Moldova and Romania and 28.2% want Moldova to join NATO.

A total of 46.1% of the respondents believe that Moldova has the best foreign ties with Romania, while 24.3% mentioned Russia, 6.9% mentioned Ukraine, 2.1% mentioned Germany, and 1.5% mentioned the United States.

The poll registers a positive tendency as regards the republic’s development vector. In August 2020, only 13.7% of the respondents said they believed Moldova was moving in the right direction, and in December (after the presidential election), 27.4% of the respondents said so, against 41.3% in January 2021.

The poll was conducted by phone on Jan. 15-31. It surveys 1,264 people (including several people who live on the left bank of the Dniester). The margin of error is 2.7%.
