President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that he and French counterpart Emmanuel Macron support the stepping up of efforts to resolve the conflict in the Donbas region of east Ukraine.

Speaking after a 30-minute conversation Feb. 20, he said that they both agreed on the holding of an urgent meeting of the Trilateral Contact Group on Ukraine and an immediate ceasefire in Donbas.

The frequency of shelling has increased significantly in the last few days and has led to the deaths of several Ukrainian soldiers.

The TCG is a group of representatives from Ukraine, Russia and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe that was formed to facilitate a diplomatic resolution to the war in the Donbas region.
