With winter just around the corner, it’s time to get to get skin and body ready for the chilly weather that comes with it. Here’s a Kyiv Post selection of beauty treatments that can help a person to stay looking healthy.
Kriotherapy
Apart from a facelift,
a course of kriotherapy could improve the immune system. The procedure lasts
only three minutes. Dressed in underwear only, the person has to stand inside a
man-size sauna where three portions of cold air at temperature from s -130 C
to -170 C will be blowing over a person’s body.
“It boosts the
immunity and metabolism and has a facelift effect,” says Svitlana Melnykova,
administrator at Tonus Studio beauty salon, which offers kriotherapy among
other services. The best time for this procedure is autumn, according to
Melnykova. The course consists of 15 procedures.
“A woman
suffering from chronic tonsillitis had no problems with health for more than
two years after a course of kriotherapy,” she says, adding that most of the
clients come back for the second course.

Paraffin therapy
“Paraffin
therapy is a classical procedure when it comes to hands treatment, especially
in winter period,” says Angelina Gevorgyz, director at Cacao beauty salon.
Hands will be
bathed in hot paraffin, a white wax-like substance for a few seconds. Then you
will put on cotton gloves for 15 minutes.
“Unlike creams
that will wash out, paraffin covers the skins with the protection sheathe. It
has nourishing and moisturizing effect,” Gevorgyz says.
She recommends to undergo the procedure once in 10 days or once a week if your skin is dry.

Fish massage
When you’re done
with hands, here’s a good way to take care of legs and combine the pedicure
with relaxation.
You will be
offered to put your legs knee-high into the aquarium with 300 little Asian
fishes Garra Rufa, better-known as doctor fishes who will be nibbling the rough
skin on your legs for about 20 minutes. The procedure is followed with a
20-minute massage.
“Apart from nail
and skin care, it improves the blood circulation and even could make up for
pedicure if done once a week regularly during a month,” says Kateryna
Melnykova, administrator at Fish massage salon which has been operating in Kyiv
for more than a year and a half.
“This procedure
was once offered in VIP beauty salons for Hr 900 but now it’s available at
moderate price (Hr 89),”she says. Garra Rufa are imported from Singapore for Hr
50 per one according to Melnykova.
“My colleagues
and I often go for fish massage during lunch break. It helps to take rest from
work,” says Alina Kravchenko, while her 3-year old daughter underwent fish massage
at a salon in Dream Town.

Individual cosmetic
If you are not
satisfied with the cosmetics on sale in shops and beauty salons, consider
visiting the I.C. Lab, where you will be offered to make individual facial and
eyelid creams, to take care of the face areas that should be protected carefully
in cold seasons.
First you have
to undergo a test. A special video scan technology is used to get the
information about the client’s skin. “The baseline data that will be measured
with video scanner includes moisturizing level, the pore size and the depth of
wrinkles,” says Olena Adamchuk, general director of I.C. Lab.
Then the
information is sent to the laboratory in Cyprus where the creams are made
according to Adamchuk. It will take up to two weeks to get your cream ready. The
pull date of the cream is 6 months only.
I.C.Lab is yet
the one company in Ukraine focused on such kind of services.
“This cosmetic
is designated for 25-year old women and older. But we can make an individual
cream for younger women as well,” Adamchuk says.
