You're reading: Hearts Club has great location, pricey cocktails

The recently opened Hearts Club draws attention with its central location at Lva Tolstoho Square. Having paid a visit to one of its recent parties, I can say that Hearts is a nice choice, but a number of flaws may stop it from becoming the best.

The club shares a building with Kyiv Cinema. Hearts is a party epicenter with a relaxing club atmosphere, modern music and fancy interior, but an expensive bar and slow wait staff.

The party I attended was organized by my university friends. All non-student visitors could enter by paying the regular fee. For women, the entrance is free all night. Men get in for free before midnight. Afterwards the fee is Hr 100. Compared to other Kyiv’s clubs, which make men to pay up to Hr 200, the Hearts has fair prices.

However, getting into the club on a busy night is not easy. The security guys enforced serious face control and kept many potential patrons out in the cold. They paid particular attention to attire, and I had the unpleasant impression that they were evaluating the thickness of the patrons’ wallets.

I must have looked expensive enough, so I got in. To my surprise, the hallway was full of people. The club itself didn’t appear to be overcrowded, but it looked like the cloakroom could fit only half of the visitors’ coats, causing a bit of a mess in the hallway.

After 40 minutes of waiting I finally pushed my coat into the tiny cloakroom and headed to the dance floor.

The club’s interior was appealing. Dim purple lights created an intriguing and mysterious vibe. The club is divided into dance floor and lounge zone. My friends had a table reserved in the lounge zone, so I did not have to tire myself out on the dance floor all night. For those who also want to avoid this fate, a table reservation price starts at Hr 2,000. The whole sum is a deposit that can be spent at the bar. A table fits up to six people.

Before dancing, I decided to warm up and get a drink. There are two bar zones in Hearts. One is in the center of the club and another is at the back of the dance floor. However, the bartender at the dance floor zone was nowhere to be found. Neither was it easy to get the attention of a bartender in the central-zone bar. It took him 10 minutes to notice me holding a Hr 500 note and take an order. I couldn’t find any other way to show that “I am here, the money is here, just take my order, please.”

My choice fell on my favorite long drink, the Long Island Tea, which cost me Hr 165. Later I found out that the drink was actually just Hr 115, but the bartender either made a mistake or decided to keep part of the change. Also, I never got the receipt. The cocktail had a right proportion of alcohol and the taste was great. For those who do not regard Hr 115 an expensive price for a cocktail, it is worth trying.

The music was very inviting and made me want to dance instead of sipping my cocktail. It combined famous r’n’b, pop, and house tracks. After just a couple of tracks, I washed all my stress away.
