Polish Movie Days

Polish Institute presents Polish Movie Days in Zhovten Movie Theater. The festival is going to take place in Kyiv, Donetsk, Odesa, Kharkiv, Vynnytsa and Ternopil. The program features some 13 films in the variety of genres, from documentary to romance. The year’s opening picture is “Walesa. Czlowiek z nadziei (Walesa: Man of Hope),” a 2013 biopic by Andrzej Wajda that tells a story of the second Polish President Lech Walesa. All the movies are screened in Polish with Ukrainian subtitles.

British Theater

For the sake of those who dreamt about going to London and enjoying a performance at West End, the West End came to Kyiv. Video versions of the major British theater productions are going to be screened in Kyiv. The list of shows includes “Richard II” by Royal Shakespeare Company, “Twelfth Night” by the Globe Theater, two versions of “Frankenstein” by the Royal National Theater, “Coriolanus” by the Danmar Warehouse and more. All of the shows are screened in English with Ukrainian subtitles.

Book World

Book Arsenal is a yearly book festival that promotes literature and supports new authors. A five-day event, it includes a book fair, a variety of book and art exhibitions, lectures from famous Ukrainian and foreign authors, video and photo projects. This time, the list of festival participants’ include French authors David Foenkinos, Pierre Assouline, Gerard De Cortanze, Czech author Kateřina Tučková, Austrian writer Martin Pollack and many others.

Marc Ribot’s Ceramic Dog

American guitarist and composer Marc Ribot is coming to Kyiv. Over the years, Ribot released more than twenty solo albums, worked with the major celebrities like Elvis Costello, Robert Plant, Dian Kroll and Elton John. The Kyiv show will be performed by Rebot and the Ceramic Dog band that he leads. The band identifies the music genre it plays as “free-punk-funk-experimental-psychedelic-post-electronic.”

New Era Orchestra

Founded in 2007, New Era Orchestra had been gaining popularity both in Ukraine and abroad. The orchestra focuses on the “new classics” by contemporary composers. The shows usually include works by John Travener, Leonid Desyatnikov, Arvo Part and John Williams.
