You're reading: Discover Kyiv street murals with new mobile app

To find any of more than 100 Kyiv murals has become easier due to the new iPhone app, designed by a Ukrainian developer. Roman Sosnovskyi has created the digital map of the Kyiv murals, which also shows their descriptions.

In the last couple of years, after the EuroMaidan Revolution of 2013-2014 was over, both native and foreign artists have been decorating the Kyiv buildings with top-notch street art. Dozens of murals featuring historic figures, animals, abstraction and landscapes have brightened up the capital of Ukraine.

Today, when their number has exceeded 100 and it became difficult to keep track of them, Roman Sosnovskyi has decided to help with locating the murals. He developed Kyiv Murals, a mobile app that helps one navigate Kyiv as a street art gallery. He had a personal reason

The developer thought of an app when he himself found it hard to locate the new murals that were popping up all the time.

“My friends posted pictures of murals constantly and I tried to remember to go see these places, but I always failed,” Sosnovskyi told the Kyiv Post.

In order to have the information about all painted walls in one convenient app, he has created Kyiv Murals.

The app gives an option to make a list of murals you want to visit, find painted walls nearby and get the fastest route to them. The users can also add likes and check-ins. These signs of appreciation are all public and help to determine the most popular murals in Kyiv.

The application can be switched to either Ukrainian or English language. It is free and available on App Store. Sosnovskyi is willing to share his data with developers who would like to recreate the app for Android. He can be reached by email.

Sosnovskyi is now working to update the app. He plans to change the map so that the users could mark the murals that they already saw. Sosnovskyi might also embed an option for users to add pictures of the new street artworks.
