Kyiv summers may be hot, but its street food is even hotter.

The city is currently seeing a renaissance of on-the-go snacking, with everything from extravagant, salad-stuffed hot dogs to soup in a bread cup, now available. The best part? Most of it is under $2.

Here are some of the best street food spots to be found in Kyiv.

Tomato Pizza

Tomato Pizza — a pizzeria on wheels, is a food truck that sells pizza cooked in an onboard, authentic Neapolitan wood-fired oven. Tomato Pizza, which makes its panini bread and pizza dough using Italian flour, sells six kinds of pizza — based on cheese, salami, mushrooms, and tuna — in two sizes — small (20 centimeters) and large (30 centimeters). There are also three kinds of panini sandwiches — with chicken, pork, or tuna — which are also available in two sizes. Apart from that, clients can buy a cup of coffee, tea, juice, or mulled wine.

Prices: small pizza — Hr 45–85, large — Hr 60–99; small panini — Hr 40–45, large — Hr 70–80.

Raki&Eklery

Apparently, eclairs don’t just have to have cream inside: Kyiv’s Raki&Eklery, which means crayfish and eclairs, offers unusual combinations: customers can try eclairs with crayfish, of course, but also pike caviar, eel, duck, veal, salmon, and vegetables. Raki&Eklery promote organic food and avoid using fatty or fried ingredients. All of the eclairs are cooked with homemade sauces and are available in two sizes.

Burger Farm

Every day, the team at Burger Farm minces fresh meat for its patties. There is a choice of chicken, beef, or turkey, and there is also a vegan burger option with various kinds of cheeses and vegetables. In addition to its large and satisfying burgers, visitors can add sides of potatoes, vegetable sticks, corn, falafels, spiced pumpkin and beets. Burger Farm also has a special offer of soup of the day, and they sell chicken wings and BBQ ribs cooked over a charcoal grill. The drinks menu includes craft beer, coffee, tea, and cold drinks.

Prices: burgers — Hr 70–115, sides — Hr 35, wings — Hr 75, ribs — Hr 150.

Soupcultura

Those who are tired of panini and burgers should check out Soupcultura, or soup culture in Ukrainian, which sells hot and cold vegetarian soups in an edible cup made of dough. The menu usually includes four fresh homemade soups, which rotate from time to time. At the moment the menu features cheese, mushroom, and lentil soup, and gazpacho. The places also offer smoothies and tea.

Furgoneta

At Furgoneta, another place on wheels, clients can watch the cooks prepare their food as they wait. Their menu includes wok dishes — noodles and rice with chicken and vegetables — with a choice of both egg and rice noodles. Food is sold in traditional Chinese street food card boxes. Furgoneta also sells five kinds of burgers: with beef, mutton, and chicken. Slathered with homemade sauces and enclosed in a sesame bun, burgers can be ordered along with a side of fries All dishes are also available in two sizes.

Bistro Bistro

A hot dog and a cold drink go down well at any time of the day, and Bistro Bistro offers six kinds of hot dogs — spicy and mild — that are sold in three locations. The hot dogs are made with white sausage or Bavarian sausage, with vegetables, cheese, bacon, sauces and mustard. Commonly cited as the best hot dogs in Kyiv, the food here is worth going out of your way for. The drinks menu includes homemade lemonades with berries and fruits, coffee and tea.

Proshche Borschta (Simpler Than Borscht)

This unusual place sells healthy burgers and desserts. They don’t use wheat flour, sugar or yeast, and produce some of their own ingredients. The buns for burgers are made of bran flour, eggs, and peanuts. Proshche Borschta makes its burgers with tofu and baked zucchini, turkey, veal, salmon and home-made sauces. The dessert menu includes various kinds of cheesecake and granola, brownies, oatmeal cookies, candy and dried fruit. The place also sells coffee, tea, fresh juice, and Club-Mate (a tea-based sparkling drink).

Prices: Burger Hr 50–70, cheesecake Hr 49, granola Hr 49, candy and cookies Hr 20 each.
