You're reading: ‘The Big Bang Theory’ star makes surprise visit to Kyiv

It took four seasons of the CBS sitcom “The Big Bang Theory” for its major characters Amy Farrah Fowler and Sheldon Cooper to reveal their love for each other, but it took only a couple of days for Mayim Bialik, who plays Farrah Fowler, to confess her love for Kyiv.

The U.S. actress arrived in Kyiv on June 18, surprising many. She said on her Instagram she was in the city “for work” but didn’t share any more details.

Instead, she shared her excitement about the Ukrainian capital along with several selfies taken in Kyiv. She also revealed that part of her family comes from Kyiv. Being Jewish, they fled Kyiv due to pogroms shortly before the World War II.

“I’ve never been anywhere like this,” the actress wrote on Instagram. “It’s beautiful and complicated.”

Bialik hadn’t replied to the Kyiv Post’s request for a comment by the time of publication.

Bialik, 41, became famous for her portrayal of the title character in the teenage series “Blossom” in the 1990s. Her next big break was on “The Big Bang Theory” where she has been portraying the love interest of one of the main characters since 2010. The long-running show has been on for 10 seasons, and is scheduled for at least three seasons more.

Bialik has been nominated four times for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series and won a Critic’s Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in the “The Big Bang Theory.”

In between her acting jobs, Bialik earned a Ph.D. in neuroscience from the University of California. She plays a neurobiologist on the “The Big Bang Theory.”

The actress shared photos of Taras Shevchenko Boulevard, took a selfie at Khreshchatyk Street and in front of the Taras Shevchenko National University, and posted some pictures of the Kyiv street ads that she thought were creative.
