‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’

One of the hottest summer premieres, “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” is not a typical Quentin Tarantino film. The picture is a melancholic love ode of the U.S. director to the world of cinematography set in Los Angeles in 1960s. Written by Tarantino himself, the picture mixes a fictional story about fading Western actor Rick Dalton and his stunt double Cliff Booth with real-life events circling around the horrific murder of U.S. actress Sharon Tate by the Manson Family, a cult led by U.S. criminal Charles Manson. Although it received mixed reviews, the picture is still in talks for multiple prestigious Oscar awards including Best Picture and Best Director. The astonishing performances delivered by Hollywood stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie have been widely praised by the critics. And Tarantino’s depiction of hippie Hollywood with exceptional music and costumes selection has been recognized as one of a kind. The film will be screened in English with Ukrainian subtitles.

Foals

British indie-rock band Foals will perform in Kyiv on Aug. 27. Formed in 2005, the band of four members have already released five studio albums. Foals performed their hits at some of the best world festivals, such as British Glastonbury and the U.S. Coachella and have won a number of awards. However, Foals are best known for their live performances – the band’s members often jump off balconies and crowd surf. In 2013, the band won the Q Award for best live act and is still among some of the best live acts in the UK. This is yet another Foals’ performance in Kyiv and this time, they will present their latest album “Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost,” released in March 2019.

Blue Monday

Artists Borys Kashapov, Roman Mykhailov and APL315 examine the modern concept of Blue Monday – that saddest of days that comes right after weekends and vacations. The feeling is especially relevant in club culture – when after the night of raving and substance abuse comes the hangover and the feeling of emptiness. In paintings, graphics and street art the Ukrainian artists try to catch that moment of transition and reflect on why people in modern societies keep craving for uncontrollable fun knowing full well that Blue Monday always follows.
