‘The Aeronauts’

The visually thrilling movie about a daring hot-air balloon expedition in the Victorian England of 1862, “The Aeronauts,” will be screened in English once this week at the Multiplex chain of cinemas on Dec. 17. The film will premiere on the Amazon Prime Video service on Dec. 20, but the airborne scenes from “The Aeronauts” are best to watch on big screens. If you do, however, beware if you have vertigo: one critic writes that “if you’re even a little bit afraid of heights, it will likely scare you shoutless.” The movie’s special effects and visuals are universally praised, while some critics have described the story as “dull, plodding and formulaic.” But the chemistry between its well-matched leads, Felicity Jones and Eddie Redmayne playing the titular characters, elevates the movie to something well worth watching.

“The Aeronauts.” Multiplex (Atmosphere, Komod, Lavina Mall, Prospect, Sky Mall, Tsum). Dec. 17. 7 p.m. Hr 95-395

One of the most Christmassy stories, “The Nutcracker,” is a perfect way to tune into the winter holidays mood. The adaptation of the emblematic ballet by London’s Royal Opera House loosely sticks to the original plot, which follows the adventures of Clara and enchanted doll Nutcracker. Featuring the iconic score by Russian composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky, this version of “The Nutcracker” was first staged in 1984. Many consider it as one of the all-time favorite ballets.
