Adiel, Freddy K, Recid and others

Kyiv’s electronic music scene keeps growing and one of its recent additions is a club on Kyrylivska Street that doesn’t have a name. The venue keeps it low avoiding publicity on social media and attracting visitors within Kyiv’s rave community. And it’s a big hit among the local ravers. This Saturday, the club is bringing Italian DJ and producer Adiel, an often performer at world’s top clubs and festival that plays dub techno. The night’s lineup also features another Italian techno influencer Freddy K, Irish DJ Sunil Sharpe, Haitian-American artist Sybil Jason and local Recid.

Jacob Banks

One of the recent sensations in the world of music is coming to Kyiv for the first time. The owner of one in a million deep baritone, Nigerian-born British singer Jacob Banks will give a show in support of his 2018 debut album “Village.” The long play, mixing R’n’B and soul, was an instant hit upon release and received positive reviews. In the album, Banks brings together things that made an impact on his foundation as a singer: his Nigerian roots, personal stories and music influences. An always passionate performer, Banks highly appreciates the time that people are willing to spend at his shows, which is why he says he gives it all on stage.

‘All About Eve’

A theater remake by the innovative Belgian director Ivo van Hove of the 1950 classic movie by Joseph Mankiewicz “All About Eve” will be screened in English at the Multiplex cinema at Kyiv’s Sky Mall. The drama tells the story of a Broadway mega-star Margo Channing who takes a girl named Eve under her wing, who then tries to replace her both on stage and in the bedroom. Van Hove treats Margo as a tragic figure, an actress trying to deal with her aging and a young rival. The X-Files star Gillian Anderson plays Margo, who was famously portrayed by the iconic Bette Davis in the original. The critics write that the play lacks the emotional pull of a first-rate drama, but the performances and the clever mixed-media directing make it exciting to watch.

Winter Mass: Somali Yacht Club, Yah, ZFeelZ and others

The annual festival of Ukrainian alternative rock bands Winter Mass will heat up the cold season in Kyiv for the seventh time at the MonteRay Live Stage. The line-up curated by Stoned Jesus, the shepherds of the Ukrainian stoner-rock, includes the vintage psychedelic heavy rockers like La Horsa Bianca and Dreadnought in the Pond, but also the lighter punks Yah and the just-out-of-school shoegaze quartet ZFeelZ. The headliners are Somali Yacht Club, a stoner psychedelic rock band from Lviv, that will play a special 10th-anniversary set.
