Comic Con Ukraine

The largest comic book festival in Ukraine will take place at Kyiv’s Platforma Art Factory. Besides the market of comics and merchandise, Comic Con Ukraine will have a grand cosplay competition, comic books and video games presentations, announcements and discussions. The organizers also promise meetings with famous artists, cosplayers and actors. The guest star is John Rhys-Davies, who played Gimli the dwarf in “The Lord of the Rings” film adaptation. With that being said, elves are also welcome.

This ballet classic, reimagined by the Moldova-born choreographer of the Kyiv Modern Ballet Radu Poklitaru, will hit the stage of Kyiv’s Zhovtnevyi Palace once again. The two-act performance reverses the plot of Tchaikovsky’s original: A swan is turned into a boy against his will and has to face the challenges of human life that goes against his nature. The choreography, costumes and scenery are also all new and modern, with only Tchaikovsky’s original music remaining unaltered.

Closer: The Ghost

Kyiv welcomes Berlin-based DJs Josh Tweek and James Creed, known as The Ghost. The owners of a mobile vinyl record shop, the musicians travel mostly around Europe and sell vinyl records. Tweek and Creed use their own vinyl record collection for their DJ sets, combining retro music with a modern electronic sound. The Ghost, together with Ukrainian DJs Shakolin and Trippsy, will perform at Closer, on Sept. 22.

‘Women. Equality. Politics’

The new exhibition at America House will focus on one of the hottest global topics of recent years – gender equality and women in politics. “Women. Equality. Politics” combines photos, posters and reproductions of drawings and paintings by both Ukrainian and foreign artists. The works are a selection of entries to the contest “Stop Censorship! Citizens for free countries” held by United Nations Development Programme in Ukraine.
