You're reading: Enjoy seafood at Kyiv’s 7 top fish restaurants

Kyiv might be more than 420 kilometers from the nearest sea, but good, fresh seafood is always available at several fish restaurants in the capital – in some places it is cooked right at the diner’s table.

Fish in a Fire

Fish in a Fire, or Ryba v Vogni in Ukrainian, was opened in 2016 by the famous Odesa-born restaurateur Saveliy Libkin, who also owns a popular chain of restaurants called Kompot (which is a non-alcoholic sweet beverage made from boiled fruit). Fish in a Fire is Libkin’s first restaurant in Kyiv to specialize in fish. The menu mostly includes Italian cuisine, but also features a range of dishes with Black Sea fish.

Most of the dishes are baked in a large pizza oven installed by the previous owner of the building where Fish in a Fire is located, and hence the dishes are served on wooden shovels. In restaurant’s second room there is a shop display with octopuses, various kinds of fish and other seafood on ice. The place mostly serves white wine from different countries, including Ukrainian brands. A warm salad with seafood costs Hr 330, while the price of a main dish varies from Hr 195 for carp to Hr 520 for Sicilian tuna.
