As Kyiv marks Valentine’s Day, there are plenty of options for couples and singles to get into a romantic mood. This Feb. 14 Kyiv venues are offering jazz shows, various music concerts, inspirational movies and even speed dating events.

Jazz shows

The Kyiv-based Virtuosi of Kyiv orchestra will play their program “Jazz Love Songs,” which includes romantic jazz songs by Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Nat King Cole. Joining the orchestra for the show will be jazz vocalist Ruslan Yegorov and saxophonist Dmytro Aleksandrov. The performance starts in the House Of Actors at 7 Yaroslaviv Val St. at 8 p.m.

Another jazz show entitled “Street Jazz. Woody Allen” starts at the same time in the Bel Etage club at 16A Shota Rustaveli St. The musicians will play songs from the movies of prominent American director Woody Allen, including melodies from “Viki, Cristina, Barcelona,” “Annie Hall,” “Manhattan,” and many more.

Inspiring Short Film Festival

Those looking for a spot of inspiration will enjoy the Inspiring Short Film Festival in Zhovten Cinema, which is screening 15 short films based on true stories. The short films will be screened in English with Ukrainian subtitles.

Brass orchestra concert

The National Academic Brass Orchestra of Ukraine will perform covers of romantic songs by Edith Piaf, Marilyn Monroe, Lara Fabian, The Beatles and other famous singers and bands during a concert entitled “Woman in Love” at Ukrainian House.

O.Torvald (rock)

Those looking for a louder Valentine’s Day celebration and who adore indie-rock music will enjoy the show by the Ukrainian band O.Torvald in the Atlas club. Although the band has existed for around 10 years, they gained national fame only couple of years ago, when, in 2014, O. Torvald produced an album together with the prominent Ukrainian band Boom Box.

Speed dating

Those looking for some new romance in their lives should check out an event being held by the 16 Dates speed dating company. Each participant will have seven minutes to speak to another person and, if they like them, mark his or her name down on a special card. If the attraction is mutual, the organizers send contact details to both people.
