Serbian performance artist Marina Abramović has again invited foreign volunteers to take part in the GoCamp program and teach Ukrainian children foreign languages.

Abramović issued the invitation via a short video that GoGlobal published on Facebook on March 2.

Abramović might also join other foreigners participating in the initiative this year.

“We’re calling all the volunteers to come to Ukraine to teach children here English, French and German. This will open up the entire world to them,” Abramović says in the video.

GoCamp was launched in 2016 as part of a GoGlobal initiative when hundreds of Ukrainian schools were turned into summer learning camps.

This year GoCamp will have four sessions in June and August.

Ukrainian children of the age from 10 to 15 will be able to learn English, German and French.

The project is aimed to help them overcome language barriers, develop their leadership qualities and establish an exchange of cultural values between participants.

This year, the volunteer lineup includes Deputy U.S. Ambassador George Kent, President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine Andriy Hunder, as well as the ambassadors of Canada, the United Kingdom, India, Poland, Belgium, Norway and Sweden.

According to Tetiana Kyrylenko, the head of Communication Department at Global Office, Abramović showed interest in volunteering for the GoCamp herself, but hasn’t yet confirmed that she will take part.

Abramović is a New York-based Serbian performance artist famous for her honest – and sometimes shocking – artworks.

She began her career in the early 1970s. Now 70 years old, she refers to herself as “the grandmother of performance art.” Her artwork explores the relationship between performer and audience, the limits of the body, and the possibilities of the mind.

The artist was awarded the Golden Lion for Best Artist at the 1997 Venice Biennale, and in 2008 received the Austrian Decoration for Science and Art for her contribution to art history.
