You're reading: Poll: Over 70 percent of Ukrainians not planning EU trips in near future even ‘visa-free’

Despite the European Union having introduced visa free travel for Ukraine, 71.6 percent of its citizens are not planning trips to EU countries any time soon, according to the findings of a poll conducted by the Gorshenin Institute, jointly with the Friedrich Ebert foundation’s office for Ukraine and Belarus, in May and June of this year.

The proportion of those planning such trips was 22.6 percent (those definitely or rather planning made up 9.9 percent and 12.7 percent, respectively).

Of those not planning traveling to Europe, 76.9 percent cannot do so because of their financial situation, 15.4 percent have no desire to, 14.4 percent are too unwell to travel, 9.2 percent have to mind children or other family members, 7.5 percent are too busy to travel, and 5.7 percent are not used to planning trips for a year ahead.

The poll also found that 57.1 percent of Ukrainians have never been abroad and 42.9 percent visited at least one country. Of these, 70.3 percent have been to Europe and 29.7 percent to non-European countries.
