Pop singer and people’s deputy Ruslana joins a German concert marathon with a charitable cause.
Ruslana Lyzychko, a pop singer and people’s deputy, is continuing her social work with a charity tour throughout Germany. Well-known even outside Ukraine since her Eurovision victory in 2004, she is now taking part in a charitable concert marathon as a part of an international project initiated by German singing fame Peter Maffay, called “Meetings – Alliance for Children.”
The tour will start April 14 and stops at 15 cities throughout Germany, including Manheim, Leipzig, Munich, Hamburg, Bremen, and Berlin, among others. The concerts will feature famous musicians from the 14 countries taking part in the project, including China, Israel, Peru, India and South Korea. The tour’s goal is to collect funds to go towards charitable causes in those countries.
The concert tour is the sequel of last year’s German TV marathon, through the course of which all the funds gathered were handed over for the purchase of medical equipment for the participating countries.
For this show, Rusalana recorded a duet with Peter Maffay – the song “Svitanok” (“Sunset”), in which Maffay sings in Ukrainian. This track was included in a compilation album along with songs by other project participants. All proceeds from the album also go towards charity. Other performers included Robby Romeo from the US, Chen Lin of China, Tsipi Mashid from Israel, Farhad Darya from Afghanistan, David Nunez Del Prade Santander from Peru, Indian band RDB, Mi Kyung Park from South Korea and the biggest star – singer Cesaria Evora from Cape Verde.
As Ukraine’s representative last year, Ruslana initiated the project “Chornobyl 2006 – Children of Spring.” The goal of the project was the purchase of medical equipment for Ukrainian clinics, where children with birth defects are treated. Nine million euros were raised through the course of the TV marathon and CD sales. This year, Ruslana will tour Germany in order to gather funds for children’s clinics in Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk and Lviv.
