You're reading: Ukraine-Romania ferry across Danube River to be launched

The new ferry across the Danube River Orlivka (Ukraine) – Isaccea (Romania) could be launched from Sept. 1, 2019, acting Head of the State Fiscal Service (GFS) Oleksandr Vlasov has said.

“By Sept. 1, we are planning to launch a new ferry across the Danube River Orlivka-Isaccea. This will be a 24-hour, modern, technological, international checkpoint for ferry, sea and river freight and passenger traffic with a permanent mode of operation,” he said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

According to Vlasov’s calculations, the daily throughput of the new point should be about 200 units of road freight transport, 500 – passenger cars, and passenger traffic – 1,500 people.

“This border crossing point is located in the narrowest place of the Danube. The distance between the Ukrainian and Romanian shores is no more than 900 meters. Its advantage is huge: across the Danube and you are already in Romania, the time saving is obvious. Now you can only drive around 200 km. Our territory is ready almost 100%. The Romanian side creates a temporary technological scheme,” the GFS head said.

He added that on June 27 of this year, a meeting of representatives of the SFS with Romanian colleagues on this issue will take place.
