You're reading: Number of state-sponsored films in 2017 grows by 35 percent

The number of films created in Ukraine under government support in 2017 has increased by 35 percent to 47 compared to 2016.

These include 17 feature films, 13 short debut films, 12 documentaries and five short animated movies, Head of the State Film Agency Philip Illienko said.

Illienko mentioned such full-length feature films released in 2017 as “Cyborgs,” “The Tale about Money,” “Watchtower,” etc.

In 2017, 66 contracts were concluded for the production of new films, 184 national film certificates were issued, 289 film projects were considered, of which 78 were included into the production program.

In 2017, 4,309 state certificates for the right to distribute and display films were issued. Also last year, 66 TV series were banned due to their inconsistency with the law on film industry.

The state budget funds injected into film production in 2017 amounted to Hr 488 million. Another 11.4 million were spent on various cinematic events.

The State Film Agency of Ukraine is the central executive authority, whose activities are guided and coordinated by the Cabinet of Ministers through the Minister of Culture.

The main tasks of State Film Agency include formation and implementation of government policy in film industry; implementation of state supervision in the field of film making and distribution.
