Negotiations over the release of imprisoned ex-Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko are continuing ahead of a Nov. 28-29 summit between the European Union and Ukraine, as well as other nations in the EU’s Eastern Partnership -- Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia and Moldova.

At the summit, Ukraine hopes to sign a free trade pact and political
association agreement with the EU. But leaders of the 28-nation union
say that Tymoshenko, considered a political prisoner by Russia and the
West, must first be released. Tymoshenko has been in prison since Aug.
5, 2011, and is convicted of “abuse of office” as prime minister.
