French President Francois Hollande said on Sept. 7 that since the “ceasefire has almost been respected” in eastern Ukraine, “I will ask for sanctions to be lifted” against Russia if local elections are held on Oct. 25 and decentralization reform is successful in Ukraine, BBC reported.

In a telephone conversation on Sept. 9, Russian President Vladimir
Putin, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Ukrainian President Petro
Poroshenko and Hollande agreed to meet in Paris to discuss the
implementation of the Minsk II peace agreement, the Russian presidential
press service reported.
