The head of the Security Service of Ukraine, Vasyl Hrytsak, said the spy agency had conducted searches as part of a $21 million tax evasion investigation of the supermarket chain that belongs to the nation’s richest billionaire Rinat Akhmetov.
Nothing of the sort happened, according to Yana Lesteva, spokeswoman for
Ukrainian Retail, the company that owns the Brusnychka chain.
