Ex-deputy Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Governor Hennady Korban is under arrest, suspected of embezzling Hr 40 million, charges Korban dismissed as politically motivated.
Hennady Kernes, recently re-elected as mayor of Kharkiv, also faces a
criminal trial on charges of allegedly kidnapping EuroMaidan Revolution
activists. Many critics, however, see the recent spate of highly
publicized arrests as diversions from the failure of the president,
prime minister and parliament to overhaul a politically subservient,
corrupt and ineffective law enforcement system.
