On Jan. 18, President Petro Poroshenko fired four judges who made politically-motivated rulings under his predecessor, ex-President Viktor Yanukovych.

Among them wer Kyiv Pechersk District judge Rodion Kireyev, who infamously jailed former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko in 2012.

Many were surprised that Kireyev lasted nearly two years after the fall of the Yanukovych regime. At the same time, Poroshenko once again refused to fire Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin, who is blamed for sabotaging the fight against corruption.
