President Petro Poroshenko is trying to appoint Yuriy Lutsenko, head of his faction in parliament, as prosecutor general.
Earlier this week a member of the faction submitted a much-criticized
bill narrowly tailored to allow Lutsenko, who lacks prosecutorial
experience but is loyal to Poroshenko, to take the job.
This contradicts
Poroshenko’s earlier promise to appoint an independent and professional
prosecutor general to replace the discredited and ineffective Viktor
Shokin.
