Hollywood actor Orlando Bloom visited conflict-hit eastern Ukraine as UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.
Bloom is known for his appearance as elf Legolas in “The Lord of the
Rings” and “The Hobbit” movies. His visit to Donbas sparked jokes about
Legolas coming to help Ukraine fight its war against “Mordor,” a
fictional region in the films, but sometimes used by Ukrainians as a
nickname for Russia, which stole Ukraine’s Crimean peninsula in 2014 and
has been waging war against the eastern Donbas since then.
