Orthodox Easter came on May 1 this year, coinciding with the International Workers Day, a holiday that was widely celebrated in the Soviet Union.

The Russia-backed separatists who control territories in eastern
Ukraine paired a religious celebration of Easter with a nostalgic
celebration of May Day that featured the symbols of communists, who,
ironically, opposed religion.
