Around 100 people rallied next to the Embassy of Belarus in Kyiv on Aug. 10 to protest the alleged rigging of the Aug. 9 presidential election in Belarus. Among them were members of the Belarus diaspora and Ukrainian activists.

Tens of thousands have been protesting in Belarus since the night of the election day after the official exit poll showed President Alexander Lukashenko getting some 80% of the vote, while unofficial ones showed opposition candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya winning. Lukashenko rules Belarus since 1994.

According to the National Police of Ukraine, the five protesters were detained for disturbing public order and failing to obey a police order.

Oleksandr Kolchenko, a former political prisoner of Russia, liberated in a prisoner exchange with Ukraine in 2019, was reportedly among the five protesters who were detained in Kyiv.
