Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters from South Africa, who became Miss Universe 2017 on Nov. 26, has recently earned her degree in Business Management at North-West University, according to the contest’s website.
She is passionate about a program she helped develop to train women in self-defense in various situations. She also plays golf, is keen on running, traveling and collects vintage jewelry.
At the age of 17, she was the junior deputy mayor of her city George, in the Western Cape, and became the first girl in her school’s history to be President of the Student Council for both her school and boarding house.
The contest that took place at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas on Nov. 26 was broadcasted live on the U.S. Fox TV channel.
As many as 92 women competed for the title, including 18-year-old Yana Krasnikova from Ukraine, who didn’t get to the final.
