A police officer Serhiy Oliynyk says hi to friends and relatives who came to support him during a trial on him as a suspect in killing a passenger in a car chased by police on March 2.

Patrol police officer Serhiy Oliynyk, a suspect in the killing of a passenger, was released to house arrest on March 2 by Kyiv Appeal Court. He was arrested after the chasing of the BMW sports utility vehicle with four passengers in alcohol intoxication and killing the 17-year-old passenger in the back seat of a car.

While Holosiivskiy District Court adopted the decision to release the driver of the BMW Rostyslav Khrapachevskiy, Oliynyk was sentenced to the two months of precaution before the trial.

The incident led to the peaceful protests among citizens against unfair courts and lawlessness. Thus, at least a thousand of citizens gathered for a rally on Sofiivska Square in support of police on Feb. 21.
