Ukrainian women rally at the Embassy of Poland in Kyiv on Oct. 3 in solidarity with Polish women's "Czarny Protest" or "Black Protest" against the Polish government's proposed abortion law. The poster reads: "Abortion is my business."

Ukrainian protesters gathered near the Polish Embassy in Kyiv on Oct. 3 to show solidarity with Polish women following proposals by the government in Warsaw to impose a sweeping ban on abortion.

Protesters say the ban, which has passed one stage of scrutiny in the Polish legislature, would put women’s lives at risk and is an infringement on their human rights. They argue that women who have miscarriages could face prosecution under suspicions that they had had an abortion.

Some opponents of the ban also warn that doctors might be reluctant to perform life-saving operations on pregnant women if there was a risk of the death of their unborn child.
