The Artem Plant affiliated with Ukrainian state-owned defense industry concern UkrOboronProm has presented new equipment for producing rockets.

The advanced RFFM 330-138-300 complex, which has a digital control system, is used in the production of extremely precisely machined metal tubes that are used to make rockets, the concern’s deputy director Volodymyr Kostrytskiy said during a briefing at the plant on Nov. 24.

The new manufacturing complex will  be used to make 300-millimeter projectiles for Ukraine’s Vilha multiple launch rocket system – a modernized version of the Soviet-made Smerch system.

“This equipment is unique for producing rocket casings made of heavy-duty alloys that have to resist enormous pressure and thermal loads. Thus, even microscopic defects are unacceptable for such products.” Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council Chairman Oleksandr Turchynov said at the briefing.

“Ukraine had no such technologies even in Soviet times,” he said.
