In Berehove, a city of 24,000 people in Zakarpattya Oblast, some 800 kilometers west of Kyiv, people could be forgiven for thinking they’d crossed the border into Hungary by mistake – half of the population speaks Hungarian, and street and shop signs are often in both languages.
