Chornobyl’s New Safe Confinement still needs $652 million to be built by 2017

A new containment structure to cover the radioactive ruins of Chornobyl nuclear power plant is $652 million short of its funding goal to complete the construction by 2017.The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is planning a donors' conference in London in April to bridge the gap.Chornobyl was the scene of the world's worst civilian nuclear power plant disaster on April 26, 1986, when an explosion killed more than 30 workers. The resulting radiation is also blamed for 4,000 premature deaths.
