An event organized by Ukraine’s Environmental Protection Fund to stock with fish the Dnipro River to mark the World Water Day, an event officially designated by the United Nations General Assembly in 1993.

Five tons of silver and grass carp were released on the banks of the Dnipro River in Kyiv.

World Water Day calls attention to the global water crisis. According to its official website, “1.8 billion people use a source of drinking water contaminated with feces, putting them at risk of contracting cholera, dysentery, typhoid and polio.”

The Sustainable Development Goals, launched in 2015, include a target to ensure everyone has access to safe water by 2030, making water a key issue in the fight to eradicate extreme poverty.
