On Dec. 22 nearly a hundred men attended a ceremony on Kyiv’s Independence Square in honor of Volodymyr Andreshkiv, a soldier from Kyiv Rus Battalion who died on Dec. 19 in Svitlodarska Duha, in the Donetsk Oblast.
The area of Svitlodarska Duha, near the separatist-held town of Debaltseve, is currently under the control of Ukrainian government troops as per the Minsk accords, according to Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov. The area witnessed fierce fighting from Dec. 18 to Dec. 20 as separatist forces attempted an advance, during which five Ukrainian soliders were killed.
