Jamala brought Ukraine a victory in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm on May 14.

The Ukrainian singer won the competition with a song “1944” that reflects the tragic events of the 1944 when the Soviet authorities ordered Crimean Tatars to leave Crimea but is also reminiscent of Russia’s war against Ukraine and annexation of Crimea.

Both the TV audience and the jury gave Jamala a second place, but she ended up with the biggest number of points and took the first place in the general count.
