As Ukraine marks the fifth anniversary of the EuroMaidan Revolution, one group of performers are taking an unusual approach to commemorating the critical event in the country’s modern history: a rock musical.

That show, titled “Got to Be Free,” premiered in Kyiv on Feb. 23 at the local Theater on Podil venue. It will be performed again there on March 23.

The musical’s main characters are a woman and a man who fall in love amid the barricades, and the antagonist is a so-called titushka, a hired thug who supports the authorities and the law enforcement.
