KRYVYI RIH, Ukraine -- The election commission of the city of Kryvyi Rih in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast has consistently sided with incumbent Mayor Yury Vilkul in his dispute with another mayoral candidate, Yury Milobog from Samopomich, over alleged voting fraud.

On Nov. 18, about 1,000 Milobog supporters protested against the commission’s actions.

According to the official results, incumbent Mayor Yury Vilkul, an ex-ally of disgraced former President Viktor Yanukovych, won with 49.25 percent of the vote in the Nov. 15 mayoral run-off election in Kryvyi Rih, while Yury Miloboh from Samopomich got 48.83 percent.

Samopomich and EuroMaidan activists in Kryvyi Rih argue that the vote was rigged and call for a recount.
