Three videos celebrate the Kyiv Post’s 20th birthday

20 years – 20 stories

The 20 years – 20 stories video collects stories and greetings from a cross-section of readers, fans and business partners.

Among those featured are First Lady Maryna Poroshenko, who said she respects the spirit of the newspaper embodied in its motto of “Independence. Community. Trust.”

Anna Derevyanko, the executive director of the European Business Association, talks about finding her job through the Kyiv Post employment advertising section.

Sergei Gusovsky, a restaurateur, explains why he distributes the newspaper in his establishments.

And Finance Minister Natalie Jaresko said she has been a fan of the Kyiv Post from its inception in 1995, calling it the most informative and independent English-language publication about Ukraine.

Kyiv Post history

Another video in the Kyiv Post’s 20th Anniversary Series tells the story of the Kyiv Post, from its founding in 1995 by American Jed Sunden to the modern-day era after British citizen Mohammad Zahoor bought the publication in July 2009. The video is narrated by Kyiv Post chief editor Brian Bonner, who notes the rise in the newspaper’s international readership since the EuroMaidan Revolution and Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Media Development Foundation

The video tells a story of the non-profit Media Development Foundation, launched by Kyiv Post journalists in 2014. The organization raises money to promote investigative journalism, student exchanges and training for young media professionals. The foundation has six ongoing projects and has helped more than 1,000 journalists, editors and trainers to take part in various projects in some 35 partner newsrooms all over Ukraine.
