Around 20 childern and young people from families internally displaced by Russia's attack on eastern Ukraine gathered in Kyiv for a flashmob in celebration of Children's Day on June 1.

The children and young people twirled colorful umbrellas in front of the monument to Mykhailo Hrushevsky, the early 20th-century Ukrainian academic and politician, on Volodymyrska Street in central Kyiv.

The event was organized by the Youth Academy organization.

Children’s Day, or the International Day for the Protection of Children, is a Soviet-era holiday still celebrated in many former Soviet republics.

The United Nations recommended event, Universal Children’s Day, is celebrated in many countries on Nov. 20.
