Kyivans commemorate death anniversary of murdered Gandziuk, demand justice

Around 200 people gathered for a commemorative meeting for the second anniversary of the death of activist Kateryna Gandziuk, who was murdered by a group of men allegedly for her fight against corruption.

In late July 2018, Gandziuk, an outspoken deputy mayor of Kherson who publicly accused top local officials of profiteering from the illicit wood trade, was attacked with acid. She suffered for three months in a Kyiv hospital before succumbing to her injuries on Nov. 4, 2018. The crime remains unsolved.

People who came to Poshtova Ploshcha Square in central Kyiv on Nov. 4, lit candles, put up posters with a portrait of Gandziuk, and demanded Ukraine’s authorities to investigate her assassination and imprison those found guilty.
