Residents of the Ukrainian capital Kyiv made the most of the public holiday on Jan. 9, which coincided with heavy snowfalls and low temperatures, to enjoy some winter fun in the parks of the city.

Temperatures plunged as low as -17 degrees Celsius in Kyiv on Jan. 7, which was Orthodox Christmas Day, and there were heavy snowfalls.

Slavy Park on the banks of the frozen Dnipro River in central Kyiv was a popular spot for sledging and skiing, as was the city’s Fomin Botanical Gardens.

While the temperature has risen somewhat in Kyiv since the weekend, it is forecast to remain below freezing until Jan. 14.
