On Feb. 20, “Lights of Dignity” beams symbolizing the souls of the more than 100 activists killed during the EuroMaidan Revolution were lit near the memorial also known as “Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred. Hundreds of people commemorated the bloodiest day of the popular uprising five years ago that drove Kremlin-backed President Viktor Yanukovych from power, triggering Russia’s military invasion of the Crimean peninsula and eastern Donbas. Russia occupies 7 percent of Ukraine’s territory today, or 40,000 square meters, and has killed 13,000 people, wounded 30,000 and displaced 1.8 million Ukrainians.
