Thousands of civilians, war veterans, and their families gathered to celebrate Ukrainian Volunteer Day on March 14 with a March of Patriots through the capital Kyiv.

At first the participants gathered on Mykhailivska Square in the capital’s center to honor volunteer fighters, who have stood with the Ukrainian armed forces during Russia’s war against Ukraine, which was started in 2014 with the seizure of Crimea and the invasion of the eastern Donbas region.

There was a concert with patriotic songs, before people arranged into a column and marched through the to the office of the president. They rallied there against what some argued is the capitulation of Ukraine to Russia in the current and ongoing peace talks in Minsk.

Russia’s war against the country has resulted in some 14,000 dead and up to two million displaced, according to official statistics.
