Journalists from Ukraine and around the world gathered on June 4-5 for the 2016 Mezhyhirya Festival, held at the estate of runaway former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych.

During the journalism festival, reporters and media specialists gave talks and seminars, attended an awards ceremony, and held a concert and dance.

The festival events were held in the lavish estate and house of Yanukovych, who fled Ukraine after dozens of anti-government protesters were gunned down by his security forces in central Kyiv in February 2014.

Journalists later found a vast trove of documents at the president’s abandoned mansion, including dossiers with the personal details of journalists who had been attacked and beaten during his time in office.
