Party of Regions releases party list

The Party of Regions released its list of its candidates for the Oct. 28 parliamentary election on July 30. The list is an amalgamation of the current government, the Regions' faction in parliament, and a few odd characters with good fortunes or political careers behind their backs.

The party said it approved the list based on popularity polls in the
regions, and more popular members were given prominent places in the
list as a result. Speaking at the party convention on July 30, Prime
Minister Mykola Azarov, who also heads the Party of Regions, said
that his party has to win in a fair and democratic election.

“We
have returned hope, confidence and self-worth to people,” Azarov
said. “The country now has a strong economic foundation on which
a new quality of life will be built.”
