Nearly 100 people came to Independence Square to honor Pavel Sheremet, a leading journalist killed in a car bombing on July 20.
People brought pictures of Sheremet and Ukrainian and Belarusian flags. Also they lit candles and lay flowers to honor murdered journalist.
Sheremet, 44, was a native of Belarus, and worked there until he was first imprisoned and then exiled by the regime of its authoritarian ruler Alexander Lukashenko. After moving to Russia in 1997, Sheremet worked in print media and radio and television, until he relocated to Ukraine in 2011 following Russian President Vladimir Putin’s crackdown on the Russian Media.
Sheremet continued to criticize the regimes in Belarus and Russia from his new base, as well as investigating corruption in Ukraine.
